Across BC, our fresh water sources are being threatened by reckless mining, logging, fracking and industrial water extraction. And with looming climate change threatening to disrupt our water further, we need to act now.
BC's Auditor General has "grave concern" about our water, saying "the BC health ministry does not know which water systems are at risk", "there is no strategic plan" to protect our drinking water, and that "just a single event that contaminates a drinking water system can cause serious health impacts for numerous people."
More than 100 communities in BC currently have to boil their water before they use it to make dinner or brush their teeth. This is unacceptable.
Enough is enough. Our local communities need the power and the resources to take responsibility for their own water sources, defend them from threats, and restore their health for the people, fish, and animals who need it most.
