When COVID struck, the BC Government made a $27 million dollar investment in the health and security of BC's watersheds and put 750 British Columbians to work across 60+ watershed projects in every corner of BC.
Most Healthy Watersheds Initiative projects are run in partnership or led by local First Nations, and the people being employed are those who've been disproportionately impacted by COVID job loss: younger British Columbians, women & Indigenous people.
This is good and important work. These jobs help to restore wild salmon habitat, make our communities safer from climate change, advance reconciliation through on the ground partnerships, and, of course, help to secure and restore BC's fresh water sources.
Minister Robinson, Minister Heyman, Minister Conroy, Minister of State Cullen & Parliamentary Secretary Donnelly: Please help ensure the continuation of the Healthy Watersheds funding.
The need is great, but this investment is a critical downpayment on your mandate to create a sustainable BC Watershed Security Fund, and will show you mean business.
Please send your MLA an email today and ask them to continue to invest in the Health & Security of BC's Watersheds.
