Tell The Premier to Raise Industrial Water Rates

BC is essentially giving water away to some of the largest companies in the world. Right now, BC charges a maximum of $2.25 per million litres to large industrial water users. These rates are a shocking 20-80 times less than other provinces. Meanwhile, mining, fracking and water bottling companies, and other large industries, are withdrawing enormous quantities of water from our rivers, lakes and groundwater while communities face growing pressure from water scarcity, toxic pollution, floods and wildfires.

Stopping this giveaway by raising these rock-bottom rates and dedicating those funds to watershed protection through the BC Watershed Security Fund will ensure the largest water users—with the greatest impacts on our watersheds—contribute their fair share to the costs of responsibly managing our precious freshwater sources.

Our Premier needs to hear that British Columbians expect industry to pay its fair share.
